HDP European Election Campaign Coordination set up 2015-02-24 13:44:57 NEWS CENTER (DİHA) - A People’s Democratic Party (HDP) European election campaign coordination has been set up to carry out work for the upcoming general election in Turkey and North Kurdistan to be held on 7 June. The coordination said they aim to obtain 400 thousand votes in Europe and called on all democratic circles to contribute to the election work of the HDP. The coordination has been formed by the association of many organisations and institutions in which people originally from Kurdistan and Turkey are active, such as the European Kurdish Democratic Society Congress (KCD-E), European Kurdish Women’s Movement (TJKE), the European Confederation of Oppressed Immigrants (AvEg-Kon), European Democratic People’s Confederation (ADHK), European Worker’s Coordination from Turkey (ATIK), the European Assyrian Union (ESU), Green and Left Future Party (YSGP) and Revolutionary Proletariat, as well as the HDP’s European branch. The election coordination has issued a statement announcing its foundation and declaring that it is open to the participation of all of its components and people both at local and central level. The statement stressed that the policies of the AKP, which are based on the denial of peoples of Turkey who are not Turk and Muslim, as well as triggering conflicts in society and being hostile to women, must be defeated, adding that the hypocritical policies of the two other opposition parties, the CHP and MHP, must also be exposed. The statement further emphasised that it is all the more important to wage a joint struggle of all the democratic, progressive and revolutionary forces as well as the workers against the authoritarian policies of the AKP. The statement also drew attention to the increase in workplace accidents and killings in Turkey during AKP rule, adding that the new internal security bill that the AKP is trying to enact before the elections is intended to intimidate the opposition. The coordination said they are aiming for a minimum of 400 thousand votes in Europe where around 3 million voters live, and called on all the peoples from different ethnic and religious backgrounds, and individuals who can vote in the elections in Turkey to take part in the election campaign of the HDP in order to defeat the AKP. The coordination also said any information regarding the elections can be obtained at the local branches of the components of the coordination as well as the progressive associations, society centres or mosques, etc. (nt)
