Mustafa Karasu: Guerrillas are resistant essence of Newroz 2015-03-30 08:06:47 NEWS DESK (DİHA) - Guerrilla celebrations are continuing in the "Medya Defence Areas" for Heroes Week (21-28 March). Commemorations have been held for the legendary PKK guerrilla commander Mahsum Korkmaz who died on 28 March. KCK Executive Council member Mustafa Karasu addressed around 100 guerrillas at one of these commemorations. Mustafa Karasu evaluated the Newroz of 2015, saying: “This year our people celebrated Newroz with great enthusiasm. This Newroz was different on account of the resistance in Sinjar and Kobanê, the revolution in Rojava and the message of Leader Apo. The upcoming elections in North Kurdistan also had an effect.” 'Reality of the PKK' Karasu mentioned the bomb attack in Hasekê, saying: “52 patriots died in that attack. The Kurdish freedom struggle is hard. We live in a region where there is a tradition of despotic states. Our people live under the dominance of Arab, Persian and Turkish colonialism and there is a chauvinism and nationalism that wants to deny and eradicate Kurds. There is a reality of nation states and organisations like ISIS that carry out such attacks as the one in Hasekê.” Karasu added that the Kurds had been under attack and tyranny for the last 100 years in particular, and that the PKK had come onto the historical stage in order to counter this. “This is the reality of the PKK,” he said. 'Freedom movement has created a reality of a resisting people' Karasu added: “Of course, the Kurdish people are no longer the Kurdish people of old. Under the leadership of Leader Apo our freedom movement has created a reality of a resisting people. We have thousands of guerrillas in the mountains waging a struggle stretching a thousand kilometres from Kobanê to the borders of East Kurdistan.” Karasu stressed that they had resurrected the forgotten festival of Newroz, adding that this had revived the Kurds from their death bed. He said that it had been an important goal to make Newroz a fundamental value. He said the revival of Newroz had been their greatest ideological and cultural struggle. Mustafa Karasu added: “Our movement attaches great importance to Newroz. As the PKK, as guerrillas we constitute the most resistant essence of Newroz. There is nothing more precious than taking ownership of a festival of resistance. This means being in the vanguard of world freedom. Yes, at the moment the Kurds are leading the struggle for freedom and democracy.” (nt)
