Academics: If AKP doesn't take result, it'll resort to election tricks 2015-05-19 12:56:51 ANKARA (DİHA) - Yesterday morning, several hours after a massive HDP rally in the city of Adana and with another election rally planned in the nearby city of Mersin for the day, two bombs went off simultaneously in the elections offices in the respective cities. The bomb attacks on two headquarters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the southern provinces of Adana and Mersin have drawn condemnation from academiscians and politicians. Politicians have been quick to respond to the bombing, pointing out that the AKP has encouraged the more than 50 attacks on HDP offices that have taken place this election season. Many politicians have linked the attacks to the AKP, noting that the police have not charged any perpetrators of the attacks. Coşkun: Perpetrators of attack at HDP must be disclosed Associate Professor Vahap Coşkun said the political parties were in a rivalry in the process of election, adding the tension caused by this fact. "But, it caused concern that the rivalry had turned into actual attacks. Especially, the attacks towards the HDP are jeopardising the election safety. Perpetrators of attack at HDP must be disclosed in order to prevent such atttacks," indicated Coşkun. It is the duty of ruling AKP to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to open, underlined Coşkun. Türköne: HDP is at target of AKP "The rivalry between the AKP and HDP is at the center of upcoming general elections," told Prof. Dr. Mümtazer Türköne. Türköne said, "President Tayyip Erdoğan is targetting only the HDP on his election campaign. The attack at the HDP is an organized one. The people is not fool. AKP has made a mistake for elections. I think the people will imprison those at the polls", calling all people to condemn the attacks. There are serious concerns on the election tricks of AKP, Türköne purported. "Everybody thinks that AKP will make election tricks. This belief itself is to say election safety is under threat. Everyone must do his or her duty to provide a fair and right election," concluded Türköne. Ergil: Only power to stop AKP is HDP Prof. Doğu Ergil told the situation and recent developments, "AKP has turned the elections into a matter to life and death. If it loses the ruling or absolute majority, lots of matters will occur, uninvestigated things will be probed. It will not benefit from the felicities of ruling. This ruling made an enemy of half of this society. It seems like a war, not elections. The only power to stop the AKP is HDP, so they are targeting the HDP." Ergil warned the society that if the AKP didn't take result, it would resort to election tricks at polls. Özcan: Political rivalry must occur, but... Academiscian Ali Nihat Özcan said, "It is normal that political tension is increasing, but attacks are not normal. It does not mean that you can exceed the limitations of democracy. It is not normal to tend violence and seize the wills of people through violence. Political rivalry must occur, but not the attacks." Özcan said President Erdoğan was moving on his greed for presidency. (nt)
