Armed attack at U.S. Consulate

ISTANBUL (DİHA) - An armed attack has targeted the police officers keeping guard outside the U.S. Consulate in İstinye town of Istanbul's Sarıyer district early Monday morning.

A conflict broke out at the scene soon after the attack, reportedly between the police officers and perpetrators.

Crime scene investigation teams and a bomb squad were dispatched to the Consulate where ambulances are being held ready.

In the meantime, the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul will remain closed until further notice because of the events occurred near the Consulate this morning. An investigation into the attack has been launched with Turkish officials.
