Houses shelled and demolished by Turkish tanks 2016-01-11 19:29:05 DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - In Amed's (Diyarbakır) central Sur district where an onslaught by Turkish forces have left 40 days behind, military and police forces have started a fresh wave of aggression with tanks as of early this morning. Two huge blasts occurred near Süleyman Nazif Primary School but no information was immediately available regarding the casualties these have resulted in. Heavy clashes are ongoing in Kurşunlu Mosque area where artillery strikes by tanks are directly targeting and demolishing houses one by one. In Fatihpaşa neighborhood, special operation police are opening random fire on civilian areas. While tanks deployed in Mardinkapı Primary School are shelling houses in Hasırlı neighborhood, armored diggers continue to demolish civilian residences in an effort to open a way for tanks into the neighborhood. An intense helicopter activity is also taking place. According to reports from the area, Civil Defense Units (Yekîneyên Parastina Sivil / YPS) have hit and damaged a helicopter of the Turkish military. The Turkish aircraft is reported to have retreated from the scene. Clashes between YPS units and state forces have intensified in Sur as of early hours in the morning. (nt)
