Police attacks at march of thousands in Dicle

DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - Police in Dicle district of Amed staged crackdown on people joining a march in protest against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) attacks on Rojava and the ongoing construction of military posts and dams in the Kurdish region.

The march in the village of Pirajman was joined by hundreds of people including HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Diyarbakır MP Nursel Aydoğan, DBP (Party of Democratic Regions, formerly BDP, Peace and Democracy Party) Diyarbakır provincial co-chair Zübeyde Zümrüt, Diyarbakır provincial and Ergani district executives and hundreds of people.

The mass marched from the village of Pirajman to the district of Dicle where they were prevented by police on their way to AKP Dicle district office where they wanted to make a statement to the press. Police attacked protesters as they reacted upon the intervention, using intense tear gas and pressure water. Demonstrators built up barricades on streets and attacked the AKP district office. Detentions and injuries were reported from the area of the clash.
