Dams to be death of Munzur Valley
DERSİM (DİHA) - Even though the damages of dams are known very well to the nature and habitat, the construction of them are going on in Dersim.
Especially, natural wonder Munzur Valley is on the brink of extinction in the ecological aspect. The projects of HES (Hydro-electric Power Plants) and dams are dragging the valley into a big calamity. When all the projects are completed, at least a population of 6.000 will be displaced in at least 84 villages around and in Dersim province where a great majority of people were already displaced in 90s years.
'There is no planning in geography of Dersim'
Dersim Municiplaity Environment Engineer Bülent Yeşilgöz criticized the continuation of dams and gave the following details: "When you regard the city center, there are factors threatening the lives of people at a great degree. The complaints of citizens increased. The building of dams on Munzur Valley are going on. The reports of ÇED are needed for the dams. However, the officials have no ÇED reports for the dams. There is no planning in the geography of Dersim."
'Dams will spirit away Dersim'
A report of Ministry underlined in 2006 that: "Dams must not be built in Munzur Valley in no way" said Yeşilgöz. He added: "But the ministry did not approve this. They formed another report within 2-3 years. Dams have major effects in the geography in and around Dersim. All the contructions of dams should be halted as soon as possible in Dersim. Otherwise, these projects will be the death of Munzur Valley. Dams will also spirit away Dersim."
