QAMISHLO (DİHA) - A US citizen, Jordan Matson, has joined the YPG ranks in order to fight against ISIS gangs, receiving the code-name “Serdar”.

Matson was slightly injured when a mortar shell landed near him in a clash in which 8 ISIS gang members were killed. Matson says he is very content with the attention he receives in the YPG. US citizen from Wisconsin has joined the YPG ranks, which already includes many people from different ethnic groups in Syria and the Middle East in general.

'I involved in the struggle with my unit for a week'

Matson says he had informed himself about the struggle of the YPG against the ISIS gangs through the internet in recent times, although he already had information about the Kurdish people. Matson says he decided to join the YPG as he preferred to do something rather than nothing. Matson says the YPG is a bigger organisation than he previously thought it to be and adds that he is happy that he has gained acceptance so quickly in the YPG. Matson says he has been involved in the struggle with his unit for a week, adding that he has started to learn Kurdish.

'My family supported me'

Saying that he observes the border with ISIS with his unit, Matson says he has had no difficulties regarding the conditions in the YPG, except the language barrier for the moment. Matson adds that he had the support of his family when he decided to join the YPG. Matson says that he took part in a clash with ISIS gangs soon after he joined the YPG, saying that the gangs were repelled at the end of a 6-hour clash, despite the heavy weapons the gangs had.

8 ISIS members killed

He says he was slightly injured by pieces of a mortar shell that landed close to him at the very beginning of the clash, and was taken back to the YPG base by another fighter for a check-up, and that they had returned to the fight after they understood that the injury was not serious. Matson also reports that 8 ISIS members were killed in the clash, at the end of which the gangs were repulsed.

Matson sent a message to his family and friends that he is fine, and says that he will stay in Rojava until the struggle against ISIS is victorious.
