ISTANBUL (DİHA) - A joint project initiated by KURDÎ-DER and TMMOB created a Kurdish technical term dictionary into cell phones.

A joint project initiated by Kurdish Language Research and Improvement Association (KURDÎ-DER) and Turkey’s Union of Engineers and Architects Chambers (TMMOB) Diyarbakır branch created the android version of Kurdish Technical Term Dictionary (Ferhenga Zaravayên Teknîkî). Encompassing 5,000 terms, the dictionary was previously released in print version. “Our work has been a collaboration of various engineers, architects, city planners, Kurdish teachers, linguists and other experts,” electronics engineers Hasan Güneyli told bianet. “I was also the executer and spokesperson of the project. Within our research, we went to South Kurdistan and had a week of technical observations. We have exchanged ideas with scholars and experts in Duhok, Hewlêr and Suleymaniya. The first meetings on the project date back to July 2011.”

Project supports all Kurdish dialects

Güneyli also added that the project supported all Kurdish dialects from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Europe and Turkey since they have exchanged ideas with experts from all regions. “In this aspect, this piece is a product of a national effort. Regardless of Kurmancî, Dimilî or Soranî dialects, we have considered them as Kurdish and added them into our dictionary.” Güneyli concluded that while they have only added 500 terms to the digital dictionary at the moment, they were soon to include all terms.
