Salih Muslim: Kurds accepted as an actor in future of Syria
MOSCOW (DİHA) - PYD Co-president Salih Muslim has said that the organised struggle waged by the Kurds in general, and in Kobanê in particular has made them an actor in Syria and earned worldwide recognition.
Following a meeting in Cairo, PYD (Democratic Union Party) Co-president Salih Muslim has come to Russia to attend a meeting that will seek a solution to the crisis in Syria. Muslim said the importance of the Kurds in the Syrian opposition had become clear, as they were better organised. Muslim added: "We will have an important role at the meeting, and will be an example both as regards uniting the opposition and finding a solution for Syria.”
'Our system in Rojava is a possible model for whole of Syria'
PYD Co-president Salih Müslim spoke to DIHA before the meeting, saying that their expectations from the meeting were to unite the opposition in Syria and then to look for a solution. Muslim said the meeting in Cairo had gone well, adding: "Here we will try to complete what started in Cairo. There is really only one way forward. If a solutiuon is truly wanted then we have to combine Cairo with here. The Kurds are more organised in the opposition and we will have an important role at the meeting. The system we have established in Rojava is a possible model for the whole of Syria.”
Muslim recalled that the meeting in Geneva last January had not been successful, as it had not included everyone. Muslim said: "Although this meeting has more chance of success, there is no political representation of Islamist and Jihadist forces. If we reach an agreement, who can stop them? This is the down side of this meeting.”
'Our meetings will continue in Moscow’
Muslim explained the reason for holding the meeting in Moscow, saying that they had been talking to Russia for more than 2 years. “Everyone should see that the Kurds are now an actor. Others apart from Russia should see this. Kobane has been a turning point. The whole world has opened its eyes.” Muslim added that meetings would continue in Moscow, dependent on the parties involved.
Talks to go on for d 4 days
The meeting at the Russian Foreign Ministry will continue for 4 days. On the first day there will be talks between NGOs and the Syrian opposition. On the following two days the Syrian regime will join the talks. No representatives from the UN will be present, not even the UN’s Syria envoy, Steffan de Mistura. According to the official Russian news agency, Tass, apart from the components of the Syrian National Coalition, all the Syrian opposition will attend the meeting. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he hoped a dialogue would begin between the opposition and the Syrian regime.
