Dicle: Declaration at Newroz depended on progress of talks
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - DTK co-chair stressed that the government did not deny the fact that the negotiation process is about to start.
The co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Hatip Dicle, also a member of the Kurdish delegation holding meetings at Imralı with the Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan, has stressed the need for a democratic constitution in Turkey for the resolution of the Kurdish question. He answered the questions of journalists following the visit to DTK office in Amed by members of the Federal Kurdistan Parliament. Hatip Dicle said the decisions taken together with the government will be announced in a joint statement in the shortest time possible following a meeting with KCK executives in Kandil and with the government representatives to follow that. Dicle said they prefer not to provide further details before these planned meetings.
'Solution of a 200-year-old problem was by no means an easy task'
DTK co-chair stressed that the government did not deny the fact that the negotiation process is about to start and added that they, as politicians, must enhance this hope. “This is also the duty of the delegation. And this is why we always treat the things from a positive side. Of course, the public must be informed and everything will be made clear in the joint announcement”, said Dicle, adding that they sometimes faced difficulties in the talks, which they perceived as normal and similar to those faced in similar processes. Dicle said the role of the politicians and the diplomats was to solve these difficulties and to open the way for the continuation of the talks, adding that the solution of a 200-year-old problem was by no means an easy task.
'A democratic constitution needed for a resolution'
Dicle added that their aim was to reach an agreement before the June elections and to announce it to the everyone. “A democratic constitution is more important than anything else for the resolution of the Kurdish question. There is still no possibility of making a democratic constitution in the Turkish parliament. There have been numerical difficulties for reaching a majority in parliament”, said Dicle, stressing that the Kurdish question could be resolved in stages.
'We attached a greater importance to talks at table'
Co-chair of the DTK said there were efforts being made to issue an important declaration at Newroz, adding that the timing of the declaration however depended on the progress of the talks. In response to a question about the resignation of the head of Turkish Intelligence (MIT), Hakan Fidan, to become a candidate for the elections, Dicle said the peace process was not dependent on individuals, but on institutions. “The talks are taking place with the state. We cannot intervene the deals made by the representatives of the state among themselves. We attached a greater importance to the talks at the table,” he added.
