HDP: Incident was an indication of what will happen
ANKARA (DİHA) - HDP deputies who suffered an attack by government deputies in the Turkish Parliament yesterday, said that the incident was an indication of what will happen after the controversial ‘Internal Security Package’ becomes law. AKP MP and group chair Mustafa Elitaş, who has been accused of being responsible for the attack, accused the opposition parties of ‘waging terror’.
HDP deputies Pervin Buldan and Ertuğrul Kürkçü have issued a statement about yesterday’s incident. Buldan said: "The AKP bill has shed its first blood in parliament. The AKP should launch an investigation into its own group leader. The AKP is endangering the process of peace and resolution.”
'AKP deputy tried to punch women deputies'
Ertuğrul Kürkçü, with a crash helmet on his head, said that he had put on the helmet to protect himself against possible attacks. Kürkçü added that male AKP deputies had attacked HDP women deputies Buldan and Tuncel, naming AKP deputy Oktay Saraç as the one who had tried to punch the women deputies, his blow connecting instead with Kürkçü’s head.
‘It was a rehearsal’
Kürkçü added: “It appears that this Internal Security Package has become a matter of life or death for them. At every opportunity they are issuing threats. If this bill becomes law, Turkey will become a slaughterhouse. Yesterday’s incident was a rehearsal for this.” Elitaş who argued that the female deputies of the HDP beat themselves also claimed that the bill was democratic and met the requirements of EU agreements.
