EP decides to form security region for Assyrians, Syriacs
NEWS CENTER (DİHA) – The European Parliament has announced the decision to form a security region for the Assyrian and Syriac people in the region of Habur and the Ninova Valley, where Daesh has been attacking and massacring local people. The Syriac Military Council has officially accepted.
Since February 23rd, Daesh gangs have been continually attacking Assyrian and Syriac villages. The Syriac Military Council, Habur Defense Forces, YPG/YPJ and asayiş peacekeeping forces have been fighting back, with heavy weapons used in the fighting and Daesh taking a heavy toll. The Syriac Military Council has now called on the people of the villages, who have fled the area, to return.
The European Parliament assembled to discuss the plight of the Assyrian and Syriac people in the area, deciding to form a security region and to officially recognize and support the Syriac Military Council. Clashes are continuing in the areas of Til Temir, Til Nasri, Til Gebiş and Til Hemis. Last night, Daesh attacked positions around Til Nasri and Til Tamir.
