KCK calls for 'mass participation' in 2015 Newroz
NEWS CENTER (DİHA) - The KCK Executive Council Co-Presidency has called on all Kurds, peoples, faiths, women, youth and all revolutionary democratic forces to ensure there is a mass participation at Newroz.
In a statement the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council Co-Presidency KCK said this year’s Newroz celebration should manifest itself as a people’s congress at which the popular demand for a free leader and free Kurdistan should be voiced. The KCK Executive Council Co-Presidency firstly celebrated the Newroz festival of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, all those in struggle in the prisons and on all fronts, and that of all the peoples of the Middle East. It also commemorated all those who have fallen in the struggle and pledged once again to realise what they had strived for.
‘Our people welcome Newroz with great gains and enhanced struggle’
The KCK statement said the goal of a democratic Middle East and democratic Kurdistan put forward by the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and the Freedom Movement had raised great hopes amongst the peoples of the region, recalling the resistance of the Medes to the Assyrian empire. “The Kurds have taken on the role and mission of determining the future of the Middle East. The democratic nation perspective developed by Leader Apo and the model of democratic autonomy is the only democratic option for the people of the region. The Rojava revolution and the resistance in Kobanê and Shengal are the most concrete examples of this,” the statement continued, adding that the Rojava revolution was playing a leading role in the creation of a democratic Syria.
‘2015 Newroz should be harbinger of national congress’
The KCK statement said that in South Kurdistan the Êzidi people had set up an assembly for self-government, while in North Kurdistan the process of resolution had brought a solution of the Kurdish question and democratisation closer than ever. The KCK statement emphasised that this year’s Newroz should mark the start of efforts to constitute the Kurdish national congress and joint Kurdish defence forces, which are essential given the current situation in the Middle East.
