Imrali Delegation online for Kurdish National Congress
ANKARA (DİHA) - HDP MPs Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Leyla Zana have gone to Erbil after visiting PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and obtaining his views on a Kurdish National Congress. KNK Co-president Nilüfer Koç is accompanying the delegation. Sırrı Süreyya Önder said they were nearer than ever to holding a Kurdish national conference.
HDP Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder and HDP MP Leyla Zana visited Mr Öcalan on 5 March and have now travelled to Erbil to convey his messages to Massoud Barzani, the President of the Federal Kurdistan region and PUK leader Jalal Talabani. In addition to meeting Mr Barzani and Mr Talabani the delegation will also hold meetings with other political groups in the region. It will also meet the Federal region PM Nechirvan Barzani and member of the Kurdistan Parliament.
It has been learned that Öcalan has written a letter evaluating the relations between Kurds and drawing attention to threats, principally that posed by ISIS, and sent warm greetings to the KDP and PUK. Sırrı Süreyya Önder mentioned previous visits to the region and said this visit could be the last one before a conference assembles. “We are closer than ever to holding a Kurdish national conference,” said Önder, adding that Kurdish parties were aware of the importance of a national conference and of alliance.
It is expected that following their meetings the delegation will take messages from the Federal region of Kurdistan to Abdullah Öcalan.
