Kürkçü: We just have one plan and that is to stop Erdoğan
IZMIR (DİHA) - HDP Mersin MP and Izmir parliamentary candidate Ertuğrul Kürkçü spoke at a panel in Izmir yesterday about the upcoming elections. Kürkçü said the HDP provided hope that the aims of a sectarian dictator who is hostile to women could be thwarted. He added: "We have no plan B. We just have one plan and that is to stop Erdoğan gaining extra powers.”
The Evrensel Press and Publication Group organised a panel entitled ‘Turkey’s Election’ at the 20th TÜYAP Book Fair in Izmir yesterday. Aydın Çubukçu and HDP Izmir parliamentary candidates Ertuğrul Kürkçü and Zeki Gül spoke on the panel. The first speaker, Aydın Çubukçu, stressed the importance of the election, adding that they would have an influence on the entire Middle East.
HDP Izmir parliamentary candidate Dr. Zeki Gül said that there had been an increase in cases of cancer in the province on account of nuclear waste. He also drew attention to the issue of genetically modified foods and criticised the use of anaesthetics on babies before they were born, linking this to a rise in drug use. Gül called for a Truth Commission to be established, stressing the importance of confronting the past.
After Gül, HDK Co-spokesperson and HDP Izmir candidate Ertuğrul Kürkçü spoke. He said the election would be tragic for Erdoğan as: "We want to bury him under his palace.” Kürkçü added that to exceed the ten per cent threshold would be a springboard for democratisation. Kürkçü said they had attracted great interest since coming to Izmir, and stressed the importance of being in parliament to reflect the demands of the people.
Kürkçü said the HDP provided hope that the aims of a sectarian dictator who is hostile to women could be thwarted. "We are therefore the choice of the workers who want democracy. It is crucial that at least 30 seats held by the AKP go to the HDP. There is no point asking us if we have a plan B. We have only one plan and that is to prevent Tayyip Erdoğan gaining extra presidential powers.” He criticised the AKP's foreign policy and its stance on Kobanê, adding: "When Erdoğan said: 'Kobanê is about to fall, this opened up a gaping wound in people’s hearts. We are the choice of these people.”
The panel ended with chants of "Long live the fraternity of peoples” and “Jin jiyan azadi [women, life, freedom]”.
