Demirtaş: Hunger and poverty is not your destiny
KIRŞEHİR (DİHA) - Speaking in his party's election rally in Kırşehir, HDP General Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş criticized the agricultural policies of AKP and said, "Hunger, poverty and abroad is not destiny of people in Kırşehir".
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) General Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş joined his party's election rally at Square Cacabey and addressed to about 10 thousands of people at his party's rally in Central Anatolian province of Kırşehir.
Demirtaş was met by a crowd of people consisting of HDP Kırşehir deputy candidates Ayşe Merva Aytemur and Onur Şahin, HDP officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations. Activists of KJA (Free Women Congress) bore their flags and chanted the slogans of "Woman, life, freedom".
'They created an army of poor'
Demirtaş criticized the agricultural policies of AKP and said, "Hunger, poverty and abroad is not destiny of people in Kırşehir. Turkey has turned into a county of millions of poor people. They created an army of poor in this country. We will change this system."
'HDP will lift the system of job work'
HDP co-chair remembered 301 victims of Soma mine calamity and added, "The system of job work is required to be abolished. If the HDP takes massive support by the people, it will lift the system of job work".
'Turkish had been taught mandatorily'
In reply to the sentences of Minister of Education, Nabi Avcı, Demirtaş said Turkish had been taught mandatorily. Minister of Education has made statement recently about language and education. He says "We fail at English language but we teach all Kurdish students Turkish well and fluently. Handle the subject from HDP deputies’ point of view. Kurdish children learn Turkish spontaneously while playing and joking around in playtime. This is how you learn a foreign language.
'Mother tongue based education is still forbidden'
Demirtaş said, "It would be nice if he had believed in what he was talking about. I don’t think he is a malevolent person but a minister of education shouldn’t talk like this. We had to learn Turkish as required by law. Mother tongue based education is still forbidden. It was a method of torture in 1980 military coup; speak Turkish, speak much. This is the extermination of Kurdish language. They don’t accept it as a native language. Kurds have been fighting the state for almost a century for their mother tongue."
Meanwhile, a mob of 200 racist persons attacked with stones at the HDP supporters in the wake of rally. Police interfered to the attackers after protest by the HDP supporters. One of the HDP members, was wounded with a stone and hospitalized.
