Yoruk Turkmens: We'll overthrow balances at June 7th
OSMANİYE (DİHA) - The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) candidate list for the June 7th parliamentary elections mirrors its resolve to embrace different segments of society in order to reach its ambitious goal of exceeding the 10 percent election threshold.
Out of the 550 seats in the parliament, nominees for 268 of them were allocated to women by the HDP as one of the party’s priorities was gender equality. The HDP list presents a portrait of the "other Turkey" not seen in those of the two mainstream parties. The party hopes to present its most serious challenge yet against the ruling AKP in Turkey's June election.
'It is a binding duty for us to support HDP'
One part of this "unseen side" is Yoruk Turkmens who are residing at the skirts of Mt. Toros in Çukurova. Ercan Gönüller, one of the Yoruk Turkmens, lives in Kadirli district of Osmaniye province. "We are seen as vote stores of both MHP and AKP until now, but we are annoyed at this. We have not seen any services from the state till now. Nobody should not see us as its vote store. Only the HDP has located us in its election manifest. If the HDP put our matters into word, it is a binding duty for us to support the HDP," underlined Gönüller.
'We believe in the HDP'
Gönüller said, "I am following the election campaign of the HDP. It is only the HDP speaking about our matters. We believe in HDP and its promises. We have similarities with the culture of Kurdish people. We have 200 voters here, there are also 1500 voters in the city center. We will persuade them and support the HDP all together".
'Votes for HDP for peace'
His sister Hatice Gönüller said his son would enlist in the army upcoming days and added, "We want peace. My son will enlist in the army. I want my son alive. I will support the HDP for peace. We will support the HDP anymore."
