Demirtaş: We received message, we won't make you President
MERSİN (DİHA) - Speaking in his party's massive election rally in Mersin, where a bomb attack was carried out towards the party headquarters, HDP General Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş responded to the remarks of President Erdoğan. Demirtaş said, "We received your message. Still, we will not make you President. We won't make you President".
The bomb attacks on two headquarters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the southern provinces of Adana and Mersin, leaving 6 wounded, have drawn condemnation from the HDP, accusing the AKP for causing provocation with impunity on the recent attacks at the party.
Despite the attack, the party held its rally in the city again under the motto of "Great Humanity". In spite of the bomb attack, tens of thousands of people flowed to the square and filled in the square. The youngs at the frontlines danced halays for hours and bore the flags of HDP, demanding "Freedom for Öcalan".
Damnation and rage rain on the attack
The crowds of people opened the placards and banners condemning the bomb attacks and supporting the party in the rally. The residents of Mersin emotionalised with the election songs of the HDP and called for solidarity. They rained damnation and anger on the bomb attack targeting their parties.
'It was an attempt of big massacre'
Demirtaş criticized the AKP government and President Erdoğan on his party's massive election rally in Adana on Sunday, stating they had the HDP on target. The cities of Adana and Mersin were targeted consciously, underlined Demirtaş, adding the it was an attempt of a big massacre.
'We received message: we won't make you President'
HDP General Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş responded to the remarks of President Erdoğan. Demirtaş said, "They sent a message with these two bomb attacks in We received your message. Still, we will not make you President. We won't make you President". After these remarks of Demirtaş, tens of thousands of people chanted slogans of "Mersin is proud of you".
'Our most important promise is a new constitution'
"In order to change this mentality of the state, there is need for a new constitution. We will make it in order to build peace on these lands despite all these attacks and provocations. We will give your seized rights back. You are working, you are producing, but they are eating. We will provide a fair distribution. All 81 provinces of the country will respond to these attacks on June 7th," underlined Demirtaş.
'Those who cooperate with a rapist gang cannot give us democracy lessons'
In defiance of the attacks, the HDP's co-chair went ahead with a planned rally in Mersin on Monday evening, launching stinging broadsides against Erdogan, whom he accuses of supporting the gangs of Daesh. "The president of the country calls the HDP a 'terrorist' organisation but doesn't say a word to Daesh gangs," Demirtas said.
"Those who cooperate with a rapist gang cannot give us democracy lessons." The HDP is seeking in the election to clear the 10 percent quota to take seats in the parliament. Its success could dent the ruling AKP party's plans to reach a thumping majority in the 550-seat parliament in order to change the constitution and create a presidential system.
Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan said earlier this month it would be "super" if the HDP failed to clear the 10 percent threshold.
