Baluken: KCK is ready to organize congress if AKP...
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - Member of the İmralı Delegation, İdris Baluken, answered journalists’ questions and stated that the official applications they have made over the past two months for meeting with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan remain unanswered.
In response to journalists’ questions on the joint statement the government and the İmralı Delegation made on February 28 and the Dolmabahçe meeting Yaşar Büyükanıt and Erdoğan had in 2007, Baluken responded in the following way:
“The goal of the 2007 Dolmabahçe agreement was to dissolve the Kurdish movement and silence the Kurdish people’s demands for freedom. That agreement opened countless wounds in this geography and strengthened the status quo. By organizing the joint statement we made with government officials on the day of the 28 February military intervention, we wanted to show our commitment to secure the future of democracy in Turkey. Therefore, we call on the AKP government to reconsider the points we made in the Dolmabahçe joint statement that prioritize our democratic future.”
'KCK is ready to organize congress if AKP...'
Baluken continued by emphasizing the KCK’s current position: “KCK is ready to organize the congress in a few days if the AKP government removes the isolation system, comes to an agreement on the establishment of a observers’ delegation, and proceeds with the military agreements framed by the process.” Baluken stated that this position unmasks the AKP attempts to avoid negotiations, and it is crucial for the AKP to satisfy people’s demands for peace as opposed to resuming conflict.
'Öcalan is our red line'
In response to a question on the “new system of isolation,” Baluken reminded that the last two meetings in Imrali took place on March 18 and April 5, and communications with Öcalan have stopped since then due to the Turkish state’s refusal of the HDP Imrali Delegation’s official applications to meet with Öcalan.
Baluken continued his statement by stressing that: “Öcalan is the architect of the peace process and the future of Middle East. His solutions are followed by many audiences and should be able to communicate with his people and the delegation. This is a clear policy of isolation and violates our prior agreement with the government on Öcalan’s increased access to meetings with the delegation and other civil society groups. Access to Mr. Öcalan is our redline and this policy of isolation is a clear violation of this line.”
'They try to provoke the public'
In response to the question on the delegation’s meetings with the government, Baluken stated that the last meetings took throughout April 20-25 where the delegation emphasized the importance of continuing these meeting and keeping communication channels open despite the conditions. Baluken ended the statement by saying that AKP representatives rejected this proposal and intentionally shut down all communication channels to provoke the public.
