British lord: Autonomy best solution to problems of Middle East
GIRKÊ LEGÊ (DİHA) - A member of the House of Lords, Lord Hylton, spoke at a press conference yesterday after a two-day visit to the Cizîr Canton of Rojava, where he held a series of meetings, saying the system of democratic autonomy is the most successful system to resolve the problems of the peoples of the Middle East.
Lord Hylton was speaking yesterday after a 2-day visit to the Cizîr Canton of Rojava, where he met the Canton administration, political parties and the Diplomatic Relations Bureau, after which he visited the Canton Co-presidents in Rimelan. Lord Hylton was met in Rimelan by Co-presidents Şex Himêdî El-Deham El-Hadî and Hediya Yûsif, Legislative Assembly Co-president Hekem Xelo, Foreign Relations Council Chair Ebdulkerîm Umer and his deputy Emîne Osê and advisors.
At the meeting Lord Hylton was told how the system of democratic autonomy worked, given details of the inter-communal joint life project and informed about ISIS gang attacks.
Following the meeting Lord Hylton held a press conference, at which he said he had only been able to visit the Cizîr region during his two days in Rojava, and that he hoped the three cantons would soon be united. Hylton added that he believed the system of democratic autonomous government was the best model to resolve both the crisis in Syria and the problems of all the peoples of the Middle East.
Lord Hylton said he was very impressed by the development of common life by all ethnic and religious communities, adding that the best thing was the fact that Kurdish, Syriac and Arabic were all official languages in the canton.
Hylton was asked the question: “What message have you brought from Britain to Rojava?" He replied thus: “My message is this: In Rojava may all communities live in freedom and security and may everyone support it."
Regarding Britain's stance on ISIS attacks, Hylton said it was concerned at these attacks and that in his opinion European countries were not doing enough to counter the threat posed by ISIS. In response to a journalist's question regarding why European countries did not officially recognise the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Rojava, Lord Hylton said: “I agree. Why don't European countries officially recognise thye Rojava administration?"
Lord Hylton said he had been following developments in the region for 5 years, and that he had observed that the situation in Rojava was good and that he would inform international public opinion.
Lord Hylton added: “Through my contacts at the Foreign Office, the European Parliament and the House of Lords I will convey the voice of Rojava to Europe. I will write articles in newspapers about Rojava and on my website."
