Name wanted for square of twin bombs at HDP rally
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - The City Council Youth Assembly has initiated a questionnaire study in order to change the name of square at which twin bomb attacked were carried out at HDP rally in the main Kurdish city of Diyarbakır.
The attack at the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) rally of hundreds of thousands of people at Square Station in the main Kurdish city of Diyarbakır (Amed in Kurdish) claimed lives of 5 civilians and wounded 402 more on June 5th.
The square of second bomb attack has become center of press statements, sit-ins and actions since then. The residents of the city demanded the name of the square to be changed and a memorial to be built in memory of the victims of the twin bomb attacks.
The City Council Youth Assembly has initiated a questionnaire study called "Let you determine new name" in order to change the name of square. The proposals of the citizens are being recorded within the scope of campaign.
Totally, 12 names have been offered for the square, mostly "June 5th Square". Most of of the citizens are offering name of "Great Humanity Square" referring to "Great Humanity", HDP's election motto.
After the questionnaire study, a report will be submitted to Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality.
