Prisons in mourning and rebellion for three days
ISTANBUL (DİHA) - Political prisoners in Turkey have announced that they will go on a hunger strike to protest the massacre in Suruç.
Political prisoners of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the Party of the Liberation of Women of Kurdistan (PAJK) have announced a three-day hunger strike starting tomorrow to condemn the massacre in Suruç. "We are in mourning for three days, in rebellion for three days," said the prisoners in a statement.
"We are right to question and ask for results from the AKP power and the state who support Daesh attacks, who lay the ground for these attacks, who don't stop or arrest the Daesh gang members crossing the border, who don't stop the attacks," said Deniz Kaya, speaking on behalf of the prisoners. "This needs to not stop at criticism. It is necessary to force those in power with actions and to bring clarity with a legal struggle."
The prisoners called on the people of Kurdistan and Turkey to organize their own defense and lines of information as a defense against future attacks.
"It is absolutely true that no attack or massacre will stop us from resisting, from demanding freedom and democracy," said the prisoners. "On the contrary, every martyrdom is our reason for escalating our resistance. However, it was not face for these attacks to end in a massacre. It is in our hands to stop this and to turn it around."
The prisoners will be on hunger strike from July 24 to July 26.
