AKP initiates operations of 'political genocide'
NEWS DESK (DİHA) - AKP government is continuing its operations of political genocide across North Kurdistan and Turkey.
URFA
32 youths have been taken into custody in house-raid operations by police forces in Viranşehir, Ceylanpınar and Suruç districts of Urfa. Nine youths detained in Şırnak, Hürriyet, Cumhuriyet and Yenişehir neighborhoods of Viranşehir were accused of membership to the YDG-H (Movement of Patriotic Revolutionary Youth).
SURUÇ
Police also conducted operations in Suruç district where 31 socialist youths were killed in a massacre on July 20. 12 people have been detained in the operations conducted in the neighborhoods of Sarayaltı, Cumhuriyet, Aydın, Dikili and Yenişehir so far. Zeliha Çağan, mother of one of the youths detained here, said that her son had helped carry the wounded after the bloody suicide attack, and was probably detained for that reason.
In Ceylanpınar district, police detained 10 people including DBP district executives in the house raids in Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Aydınlık, Yeni Mahalle neighborhoods and countryside. All those detained in three districts have been taken to Urfa police directorate.
ŞIRNAK
In İdil (Hezex) district of Şırnak, police forces accompanied by armored vehicles raided a number of houses in Turgut Özal neighborhood at dawn. Breaking the doors of the houses, and making a detailed search in all of them, police also battered the people in the houses targeted in the operations. Three people, two of them youths, were detained n the operation. The number of detainees here is also expected to increase.
Detainees have been taken to district police headquarters.
IĞDIR
Nine people have been detained in the operations in Iğdır province, including DBP provincial co-chair Zübeyde Kaynar, HDP provincial co-chair Dilber Turan, former mayor Hüseyin Malk, HDP executive Emine Kartal, and BDP members. The detainees, accused of 'opposition to the law on meetings and demonstrations' and 'spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization'.
BİTLİS
Seven youths have been detained in police operations in Bitlis for alleged membership to the Kurdish youth movement YDG-H. While those taken into custody have been taken to Bitlis provincial security directorate, the number of detainees is expected to increase. IHD (Human Rights Association) Bitlis Branch Lawyer Bakir Yazı who went to the police directorate to obtain information regarding the detentions was assaulted by police, which left his arm broken.
VAN
A large number of police teams raided houses in Hacıbekir (Xaçort) neighborhood in İpekyolu district of Van at midnight. While the number of detainees is yet to be verified, police insulted and battered the household in the targeted houses. On the other hand, two people were detained in Van city center and taken to police district headquarters.
MARDİN
11 people were detained in concurrent house raid operations in Tepebaşı, Berçem, Koçhisar and Mezopotamya neighborhoods of Mardin's Kızıltepe district. Those detained in the operation, which was conducted by anti-terror police, have been taken to district police headquarters and will reportedly be referred to Mardin security directorate after giving their statements.
Police also raided many houses in Midyat district of Mardin but no detention has been reported yet as the people searched in the operation couldn't be found in the targeted addresses.
ELAZIĞ
The concurrent operations in Ulukent, Kırklar, Hicret and Rızaiye neighborhoods of Elazığ province ended up with the detention of six people whose houses were all subject to a detailed search. HDP members and DBP Elazığ provincial executive Şehmuz Kaya are among those detained who were taken to security directorate.
BATMAN
Five people were detained in the police operation in Batman for allegedly throwing stone during various demonstrations. The detainees were taken to provincial police directorate.
BİNGÖL
Police committed violence also during the operations in Bingöl where nine people were detained and taken to police directorate, including workers of the DBP Headquarters. The number of detainees is expected to increase.
İSTANBUL
103 people have been detained in the expansive police operations against 140 addresses in 26 districts. A number of Kurdish youths and HDP members were detained in the so-called "anti YDG-H, DHKP-C, ISIS" operations, in addition to some foreigners claimed to have ties with ISIS. While the detainees were taken to the police directorate at Vatan Avenue following a medical check, a woman by the name of Günay Özarslan was killed by police during a house raid in Bağcılar district.
Halis Bayuncuk, who called for jihad during the Eid prayer of ISIS sympathizers in Istanbul last week, and his wife are reported to be among those detained in today's operations.
ANKARA
Nine people have been taken into custody in the operation by anti-terror teams in Tuzluçayır neighborhood of Ankara.
İZMİR
The detention operations in İzmir targeted seven people alleged to be members of the PKK and KCK, including HDP provincial executive Selda Şenol and a university student. The operation is reportedly being conducted upon the order of Public Prosecutor Okan Bato looking after political crimes. The number of detainees is expected to increase, according to the information obtained from lawyers.
BURSA
Raid operations in Bursa also targeted the houses of mostly HDP members. At least seven people have been detained so far, including DİHA (Dicle News Agency) reporter Ömer Gül, and the number of detainees is expected to increase.
KOCAELİ
The detention operation in Kocaeli was also carried out by anti-terror teams and targeted 13 people including HDP members and university students. Out of the 13 detainees, 8 were released after giving their statements at police directorate, while the other are still held under interrogation.
ADANA
Concurrent house raids in the southern province of Adana were carried out in the districts of Seyhan, Yüreğir, Yakapınar (Misis) and targeted a number of people including members of the HDP. All the houses raided in the operation were searched in detail. In Seyhan district, police detained 10 people including HDP executives Cemil Demir and Mustafa Azboy and a minor aged 17. The detainees were taken to the anti-terror branch of Adana police directorate.
MERSİN
Over 20 people were detained in concurrent house raids in Barbaros, Şahin, Bahçe and Fahrettinpaşa neighborhoods in Tarsus district of Mersin. The detainees were taken to Tarsus district police headquarters.
