İSTANBUL (DİHA) - Five were arrested as police cracked down on families and lawyers attempting to retrieve the body of Günay Özarslan, who was apparently assassinated by police.

Yesterday at dawn, Turkish police launched raids across the country, including in 26 districts of Istanbul. In the Bağcılar district, police killed Günay Özarslan. Her lawyers have said that all evidence points to an assassination. Police continue to claim that Günay opened fire on them.

Özarslan's lawyers from the People's Law Bureau and families from TAYAD (a solidarity organization for the families of prisoners) headed to the forensic medical institute where Özarslan's body had been taken yesterday.

Contrary to police's claims, there were no indications of a clash at the scene, reported lawyers Aycan Çiçek and Süleyman Ökten. According to lawyers who analyzed the home, the door had been broken down and Özarslan's relatives reported that she was assassinated in front of their eyes. Özarslan's autopsy turned up 15 bullets.

When the forensic medical institute refused to turn Özarslan's body over to her family, families from TAYAD (an association for solidarity with families of prisoners) started a sit-in. Police attacked the sit-in, arresting five and blocking journalists from filming.
