Turkish police kill youth in Cizre
ŞIRNAK (DİHA) - Last night, police attacked the neighborhoods of the Kurdish city of Cizre, Turkey, slaying a 21-year-old young man in his home.
Last night, youth in the city of Cizre--located in Şırnak province--took to the streets to protest the Turkish army's bombing of Kurdish guerrilla zones in Iraq. Police tried to enter the neighborhoods, but youth dug trenches and set up barricades to stop them. Clashes lasted until morning, with police using live ammunition in addition to tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons.
21-year-old Abdullah Özdal was sitting on the balcony of his house in the Yafes neighborhood when a bullet entered his chest. Abdullah was rushed to hospital in Cizre, then to a larger hospital in the city of Diyarbakır. He lost his life.
Crowds headed to the hospital, where they were met with a line of police armored vehicles that opened fire with tear gas. The hospital's emergency unit was flooded with tear gas, severely affecting many patients.
In the Yafes neighborhood, youth headed inside when women mediated the situation.
