Unionists protest repression against educators' union
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - Union members took to the streets in Diyarbakır and Van to protest the police raid on the Ankara headquarters of educators' union Eğitim-Sen.
KESK union confederation members in Van marched across the city to condemn the illegal police raid of educators' union Eğitim-Sen. Cengiz Paycu, speaker for the platform of Van locals, called on all democratic forces to come together against the attacks.
In Diyarbakır, KESK members held a protest outside their union building, saying the repression resembled the period of the 1980 coup in Turkey. Mesut Kılıçarslan noted in the unionists' statement that the police had exceeded the law by carrying out a detailed search of the entire Eğitim Sen headquarters, despite the fact that they only had authorization to search the guesthouse.
