Attack on military in Diyarbakır leaves 2 dead
DİYARBAKIR (DİHA) - Two are dead in an attack on a military vehicle in Diyarbakır, as attacks on the police and military escalate in Northern Kurdistan (Turkey).
Tension is escalating in the Northern Kurdistan region in the wake of air strikes and police raids against Kurds by the Turkish government. In Diyarbakır province, along the highway going to Bingöl, a bomb went off as a military convoy was passing through a rural area. Two soldiers were killed and four wounded.
In the city of Siirt, last night the police station in the Ulus neighborhood came under fire. Police fired back, at which point the shooters fled. Police launched an operation across the city.
Youth in the city of Nusaybin, in Mardin province, set up barricades and closed certain roads to traffic as part of efforts to secure the city with self-defense. When police attacked, youth fought back, some with guns. Youth threw Molotov cocktails at ATMs, destroying two. Unknown persons also opened fire on police vehicles.
On the road between the cities of Bingöl and Erzurum, HPG guerrillas closed the road to traffic and set up an ID checkpoint. Soldiers then headed to the area, near the town of Karlıova, and started an operation.
In the western Turkey city of Izmir, last night an unknown person threw a homemade sound bomb at the AKP's district building in the Karşıyaka neighborhood. None were wounded, but there was damage to the building and one car.
