Peace Mother Rabia Sağnıç
BİTLİS (DİHA) - Rabia Sağnıç of the Saturday Mothers and the Peace Mothers has lost her life in a traffic accident.
Rabia Sağnıç was among the familiar faces at Galatasaray Square, in Istanbul. There, the Saturday Mothers gather on a weekly basis to demand justice for their missing loved ones. Rabia Sağnıç was also a member of the Peace Mothers Assembly, a group of mothers affected by war in Kurdistan. She took part in a number of struggles for rights for years and was among the founders of the Mesopotamia Culture Center. Her husband, Feqi Hüseyin Sağnıç, was a founder of the Istanbul Kurdish Institute. Feqi Hüseyin died in 2003.
"She saw being a Saturday Mother every week at Galatasaray as a duty," said the International Coalition Against Enforced Disappearances (ICAED) in a statement. The statement said that as a Kurdish woman, Rabia was determined to seek freedom and justice for her people and contribute to peace despite her advancing age.
"Peace Mother Rabia Sağnıç's decisiveness in her struggle is our decisiveness; her dream of freedom is our dream; her determination to call to account those who committed crimes against humanity will be our guide," said ICAED. The group wished condolences to the Kurdish people and the Sağnıç family.
Rabia's body will be buried today in the city of Tatvan.
