Turkish warplanes massacre 9 civilians in Kandil - RENEWED
NEWS CENTER (DİHA) - Turkish jets have bombed the village of Zergelê in Iraq's Qandil Mountains, killing at least 9 civilians.
Turkish jets started bombing the village of Zergelê at 4:00 a.m. today. The planes were bombing the village as part of an assault on the Medya Defense Zones, held by Kurdish guerrillas. Eight rockets targeted homes in the village. A reporter for news agency Rojnews in the region reports that many houses have been destroyed.
According to initial reports, nine civilians have been killed and 14 are in critical condition. Evacuations are ongoing, with the wounded being brought to local hospitals. Bombing in the Qandil region is ongoing.
Turkish warplanes' bombings have devastated this region before. The last attack on Zergelê, in August 2011, demolished a house. The nearby village of Kortek has also been repeatedly bombed. An August 2011 attack there killed a family of seven, four of them children. Locals put up a monument on the site of the bombing.
