YPG urges Turkey to immediately stop military activities in Rojava
EFRÎN (DİHA) - General Command of the People’s Defense Units (YPG) released a statement regarding the recent activities of the Turkish military in Rojava and coalition's attitude towards these developments.
YPG recalled that on July 24, 2015 at 4:30 in the morning, Turkish tanks bombarded a position for the fighters of the People's Defense Units (YPG) and the Burkan al-Firat (Euphrates Volcano Joint Ops. Room) in Zor Maghar village to the west of Kobani city; consequently four of Burkan al-Firat combatants were injured, in addition to a number of local civilians.
The statement pointed out that; "On July 26 at 1:00 am, Turkish tanks bombarded our positions in the same village (Zor Maghar) with seven tank rounds; on the same day at 11:00 pm the Turkish army fired on one of our vehicles in Tel Fender village in west of Tal Abyad (Gire Spi). On July 28 the Turkish military blind fired live ammunition at a member of the Self-Defense Forces during his assistance to civilians stranded near Tal Abyad border, wounding him seriously.”
Also on July 30, Turkish aircrafts between nine and eleven o'clock in the morning flew over Sarrin town and Kobani city simultaneous with an ISIS offensive on town Sarrin where a group of ISIS elements entered into the town and targeted YPG Units’ sites, leading to martyrdom of seven of YPG combatants, the number later reached to eleven.
The statement also noted that on July 31 at 4:30 am until five o'clock in the morning, Turkish reconnaissance aircrafts flew at low level (detection) above Ramalan town and Qara Chokh airspace. On July 31 at eleven o'clock until twelve o'clock Turkish reconnaissance aircrafts violated Rojava airspace in Qara Chokh for the second time.
"As the General Command of the People’s Defense Units, despite our official announcement that we are not part of what is happening from the events and clashes inside the Turkish border between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Turkish state, the Turkish military monitors and targets our Units in Rojava, Syria", the statement underlined.
The General Command of the YPG said they considered recent movements of the Turkish military as provocative and hostile actions, and demanded the Turkish government to officially clarify their attitude and immediately stop these activities.
YPG warned that these provocative actions will have negative consequences if they continue, and Turkey government will be held accountable for the results.
YPG also asked their partners in the U.S.-led International Coalition against ISIS to clarify their approach towards these actions of the Turkish military.
