NEWS CENTER (DİHA) - After Turkish warplanes bombed the village of Zergelê in the Qandil Mountains of Iraq, the death toll has risen to ten.

Turkish jets started bombing the village of Zergelê at 4:00 a.m. today. The area is located in the Federal Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The planes were bombing the village as part of an assault on the Medya Defense Zones, held by Kurdish guerrillas. Eight rockets targeted homes in the village.

A reporter for news agency Rojnews in the region said that many houses have been destroyed. The death toll has now risen to 10, as several villagers have died in the hospital.

"There were six houses in this area; they have all been destroyed," said village Feqî Muhammed. "What's being targeted here is civilian, innocent people. The Turkish state is using the PKK guerrillas as an excuse to target Kurdish villagers."

While the ruling KDP in the Federal Kurdistan Region has remained silent on the issue, youths from the city of Sulaymaniyah (along with Parliamentary representatives from the Goran and Islamic Society parties) have decided to march to the Qandil Mountains to protest and hopefully block the bombing.
