Bomb and armed attack at police: Casualties reported
ISTANBUL (DİHA) - Three police officers and 7 civilians got wounded after a bomb attack at Fatih Police Headquarter in İstanbul’s Sultanbeyli district last night. One police commander and two civilians died during the armed attack at the same police station this morning.
A bomb attack took place in Fatih Police Headquarter located in the Petrol Yolu Street of İstanbul’s Sultanbeyli district last night around 01:00. One of the three floors of the headquarter was used as a dormitory, and the whole building got heavily damaged after the bombing. The headquarter caught on fire and partially collapsed after the attack, and nearby houses, businesses and vehicles also got damaged.
According to the initial investigation, an explosive vehicle that approached the headquarter’s entrance caused the blast, and the driver of this vehicle died during the attack.
Istanbul Police Department made a statement today and said that one police deputy inspector, two police officers and 7 civilians got lightly injured during the attack that was carried out with an explosive vehicle around 01:00 on August 10, 2015. All injured police and four of the wounded civilians got discharged from Sultanbeyli State Hospital today.
Attack on investigation officers
Police sealed off the crime scene and began to carry out a detailed investigation this morning. However, a second attack took place and officers investigating the crime scene were attacked with guns. Istanbul Police Department Bomb Disposal and Investigation Unit Commander Beyazıt Çeken and two civilians died during the shoot out at the crime scene. Çeken lost his life in the hospital he was taken, and the police launched an operation to capture the attackers and increased security measures around the headquarter.
Fascists gathered in front of the HDP District Headquarter on Fatih Boulevard after the attack, and damaged the HDP office by throwing rocks and stones.
