4 police dead and one injured in Silopi

ŞIRNAK (DİHA) - Military helicopters continue to fly over Silopi district of Şırnak as the state of emergency, during which police massacred three civilians three days ago, continues.

Army and police vehicles roam the streets, and Silopi Co-Mayor Seyfettin Aydemir stated that streets were empty due to the unannounced state of emergency in the town. Gunshots took place in Başak (Zap) and Nuh neighborhoods of Şırnak’s Silopi district, and HDP Şırnak Parliamentarian Aycan İrmez said that they heard the gunshots but could not learn why and how they occurred.

After these gunshots, a landmine exploded during the entrance of an armed police vehicle into Başak neighborhood, which left four police officers dead and one other injured.

Silopi Co-Mayor Aydemir stated that they were unable to receive information on the events, and an unannounced state of emergency emptied all streets and forced him to stay within the municipality building. Aydemir noted that there was an explosion in Başak neighborhood as helicopters were flying over and army vehicles were roaming city streets.

Police had attacked civilians who were resisting house raids and arrests, and massacred 3 civilians on August 7. Ten of thousands of people had attended the funerals of 27 years old Kamuran Bilgin, who had 3 children, 58 years old Hamdin Ulaş, and 17 years old Mehmet Tanboğa.
