Silopi at target of snipers!
ŞIRNAK (DİHA) - Gunshots continued until early morning hours today in Silopi where police had carried out a massacre and tensions have remained high since August 7.
Snipers on rooftops shoot at anything that moves, and explosion sounds mix with gunshots frequently. Hills between Silopi and Mount Cudi have also been under artillery bombardment.
3 civilians had died, tens of people had been injured and several houses had been burned by police forces that besieged Zap neighborhood in Şırnak’s Silopi district on August 7 in order to fill the trenches that were dig by neighborhood residents in order to protect themselves from increasing pressures and operations. Tensions have remained high and gunshots have continued in the district since August 7, and the snipers on top of District Police Headquarters and Traffic Registration and Supervision Bureau shoot at anything that moves throughout the night. Civilians do not leave their houses in order to not be killed by police snipers, and neighborhoods have not had access to electricity since armored vehicles knocked down electric poles during the events.
In a remarkable way, women ululated in response to gunshots later into the night.
Explosion sounds mix with gunshots in the district, particularly near the 72nd Armored Battalion Command, and soldiers bomb the hills between Silopi and Mount Cudi. Helicopters screen and shoot at this area as well, and heavy weapons such as ‘doçka’s have been placed on top of the dormitories in the 72nd Armored Battalion Command.
Unidentified persons stopped and burned down two trucks in Başverimli (Tilqebin) region, and İpekyolu road was closed to traffic after this incident. Gendarme forces investigated the site of the event and the destroyed trucks were removed before the reopening of İpekyolu road’s one lane.
