Detentions and torture by Turkish police ongoing
NEWS DESK (DİHA) - Political genocide operations of the temporary AKP government, which is dragging the country into a war by putting war policies into practice, continue across North Kurdistan and Turkey.
Dozens were detained in today’s house raids, while four people were remanded in custody in Hakkari and Mersin. Moreover, police forces tortured family members in a house raid in Lice district of Amed.
ERGANİ
Special operation units raided many houses in Kemaliye, Kemertaş, Sanayi, İstasyon, Adnan Menderes, Kıner and Uzunağaç neighbourhoods of Ergani district of Amed early this morning.
Eight persons were detained in the raids, while reports say the number of the detentions might increase within the day. The detainees have reportedly been taken to district police department.
LİCE
Special operation units carried out simultaneous raids in Karahasan and Kürtük neighbourhoods of Lice district of Amed earlier today. Police entered neighbourhoods by opening random fire around and broke down the doors of the houses the targeted in the operation. Two youths at the age of 20 were detained.
It has been reported the Söğüt family whose house was also raided and one family member was detained by police, suffered torture during the operation.
Detaining Bekir Söğüt (20) after beating him brutally, police dragged the youth's mother Hanım Söğüt on the ground and hit her head against the door as she reacted to detention of his son. Police battered Söğüt’s brother Delil Söğüt by their guns, and broke his head and right arm. It is reported that police also directed guns at the children in the house.
The tortured family members were taken to Lice Public Hospital where they have received a report documenting the torture they suffered.
HAKKARİ
The two persons who had previously been detained in Hakkari were referred to the prosecutor’s office where they gave their testimonies. The two detainees were later sent to the court on demand of arrest. While one of them was released, the other one was formally arrested by the court on alleged charges of “disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state”, and sent to Hakkari Closed Prison.
MERSİN
Six persons previously detained in Tarsus district of Mersin were also referred to a court on demand of arrest today. While three of the detainees were released, the other three were remanded in custody on alleged charges of “being a member of an organisation”.
ADANA
Police raided many houses in Gülbahçe neighbourhood of Seyhan district of Adana this morning, detaining seven persons, including a 15 year old minor.
