Sit-down strike against ongoing curfew in Dargeçit
MARDIN (DIHA) - A 16 year old youth who was shot by police in the Dargeçit district of Mardin has hospitalized.
Attacks are going on whilst the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) member of parliament (MP) of Mardin Gülser Yıldırım attempt to go to Dargeçit along with the people of Mardin. In response, Turkish forces have prevented the delegation from entering the district.
As the curfew in the district of Dargeçit in Mardin continues on the 4th day, violent attacks ongoing in the neighbourhood of Sefa have injured a 16 year old called Muhammed Akyüz. Akyüz was taken to hospital after being shot in the area.
A delegation formed by the HDP along with the MP of the Mardin province Gülser Yıldırım, politicians and women have travelled towards Dargeçit in order to protest attacks ongoing in the town. However, the delegation was not allowed entry into the town through prevention from soldiers.
MP of Mardin, Gülser Yıldırım’s response to the action was evident in her words "This is our land and we are not allowed into it. The police and soldiers have more of a say than the district governor. The MPs that the people here have voted majorıty at 90% are not allowed into the district."
She also included signs of the state violence imposed by the curfew by saying "We do not know what is happening inside. We want to take our injured and deceased people"
After her speech, a sit-down strike was made for half an hour. An elderly woman was attempted to be arrested by the police during this protest but the people prevented this from happening. Afterwards, the delegation walked towards Nusaybin.
