Youths murdered in Amed laid to rest en masse

DIYARBAKIR (DIHA) - A mass farewell is bid to Şerdıl Cengiz (21) and Şiyar Salman (19) who were killed by police in Sur uprising in Koşuyolu area of Amed yesterday.

Bodies of the two youths were handed over to hundreds waiting outside Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital where they were being held in morgue since yesterday. The mass was hindered by police on the way to Koşuyolu Park in Bağlar district where they Şerdil and Şiyar were murdered, both shot by a bullet in the head.

While police urged the delivery of the bodies directly to Yeniköy Cemetery, people insisted on holding a ceremony at Koşuyolu Park, and closed the road to traffic. The bodies were taken to the park after the removal of police barricades upon the reaction of people. Tens of thousands joined the march to the cemetery amid slogans calling for "revenge". Military and police forces in the area have in the meantime retreated to their outposts.

'PKK is people'

Şerdıl Cengiz (21) and Şiyar Salman (19) who were killed by police in Sur uprising in Koşuyolu area of Amed yesterday have been laid to rest at Yeniköy Cemetery. “PKK is the people, and the people are here” and "Şehîd namirin" [Martyrs are immortal] were the main slogans chanted by people who joined the farewell to two latest victims of Turkish state violence against Kurdish civilians. Before the funeral, a ceremony was held at Koşuyolu Park where Şerdıl and Şiyar were killed by police yesterday.

'We are the grandchildren of Rostemê Zal'

Speaking here, Şerdıl's father Mehdi Cengiz called for unity from the Kurds that have denied their essence and been afraid for years now. Father Cengiz also called on KDP President Masoud Barzani to stop its cooperation with the AKP government and not to be a party to this massacre of Kurds. "You are not a grandson of Genghis Khan! We Kurds are the grandchildren of Sheikh Said, Rostemê Zal and Qazi Muhammads" he said.

Bodies of two youts were later taken to Yeniköy Cemetery where a funeral was followed by one minute's silence and the Kurdish guerrilla march "Çerxa Şoreşe'. Şerdıl and Şiyar were laid to rest amid slogans calling for "revenge".
