DIYARBAKIR (DIHA) - HDP General Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş spoke in a joint meeting with various co-chair leaders where he stated that the way in which districts in Kurdistan were sent an army of 10,000 special operation forces by the command of generals which were "pitiful" and responded to the way in which the AKP government said "We are going to wipe out every house" in relation to the operations that are carried out by saying "Who are you, who are wiping out from where, all you can do is clean the sewage of this country."

HDP, HDK, DBP, DTK authorities holding a press statement in Diyarbakır have embraced resistance against the operations while criticizing curfews and the operations launched in certain cities. The meeting was held today (December 18) with the participation of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, Demoractic Regions’ Party (DBP) Co-Chair Kamuran Yüksek, Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-Spokesperson Ertuğrul Kürkçü, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chairs Hatip Dicle and Selma Irmak.

Demirtaş: Our approach towards this colonial attempt is clear

Co-leader of the HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş explained that democratic governance was in the programme of the HDP as a governance model. He stated, "Our approach towards this colonial attempt is clear. Our party is with the Kurdish people today.’’

'We are calling out to our people to grow resistance'

Demirtaş emphasized the resistance of the people by saying "We are right. We are going to win. From the ages of 7 to 70, we are going to hold onto each other and clasp each other. Facsism cannot be bought down by request or gratitude. It can only be bought down by resistance. We shall not give up. We are calling out to all our people to grow this honorable resistance, wherever they are.’’

'You show how pitiful you are by bombing cities'

He also criticized the way the AKP government has been completing operations, curfews and military deployment in Kurdish cities by saying: "After challenging Putin for two days, the president and prime minister act like cat that has spilt milk. It is the prime minister who sends troops to Iraq and firmly says he’ll not withdraw them but later the president withdraws the soldiers. Again, the president says 'One minute' to hushing the Israeli president yet the president signs an agreement in the middle of the night with Israel in an attempt to normalize ties. Yet you act like lions when it comes to the Kurdish people and when it comes to the district of Cizre. Do you become heroic by carrying out operations towards a few PKK members with 6 generals and 10 thousand soldiers? You show how pitiful you are by bombing cities, sending soldiers towards civilians and carrying out an operation with such power.’’

'People are not scared of tanks or death'

Demirtaş also added on the way the people are not afraid of operations, stating "There is no fright or panic where you are carrying out operations today. People are certain that they will win against this. All you do is make news full of lies that say that mosques were burnt down by people."

'We are going to strengthen our resistance'

HDP co-chair stated in his speech that civilians are resisting and that they will continue to resist. He spoke in relation to the AKP government by stating "You are in a position where you should ashamed. You do not have any solution plan yet you are sending tanks to cities whilst talking of democracy and a new constitution." Demirtaş, who will be attending a congress of the DTK confirmed "We are debating on solution mechanisms with our people. We are going to strengthen our resistance in order to stop this misery. We are going to join the expanded congress of the DTK next weekend in Diyarbakır to debate on self-governance. We are going to make important decisions and bring all of them to life."

'State is acting outside the law'

Lastly, Demirtaş exclaimed the way the government’s actions have no place under law. He said "The governors are committing crimes, they cannot declare curfews. The state is acting outside law. What are these people going to do, are they going to report them to public prosecutors when they are arrested. Can they explain it to the Press when journalists are arrested too? They say that the youth are digging ditches. Give them another way, who should they complain to?”
