Police crackdown in Van: Many injured and detained
VAN (DİHA) - Thousands have gathered in Van province today to protest the mass execution of 12 people in the central Edremit district in a house-raid yesterday morning.
In the wake of a hindrance by police yet before the beginning of the march from HDP Van office, demonstrators closed the main street and started sit-in, which was also joined by executives of HDP-DBP provincial branches, as well as co-mayor Bekir Kaya, Peace Mothers and KJA activists.
Police staged a crackdown on the mass during the sit-in action, while HDP MP Lezgin Botan, co-mayor Bekir Kaya, HDP Van branch co-chair Veysi Dilekçi, DBP Van branch co-chair Caziye Duman and Peace Mothers were battered. Deputy Lezgin Botan was hospitalized after the attack.
The police siege and crackdown in city centre continues.
